Hengrove were unable to celebrate their 500th Western League game with a victory as a buoyant Cribbs side fresh from their midweek victory obtained another three points.
Cribbs started solidly with confident debutant Keith Kearney marshalling the back four in place of Colin Mugoya-Tabingwa who had been recalled by his parent club, Mangotsfield. Their first goal arrived at the 20 minute mark as a blocked shot rebounded to Jason Vincent and he struck home firmly from 12 yards out.
The rest of the half was unexciting, but sadly for Hengrove it saw them reduced to ten players as Ben Crewe was sent off for what appeared to be the use of his elbow.
The second half continued in a similar vein until a penalty was awarded and Sol Wanjau-Smith stepped up to secure Cribbs dominant position in the game.
Our Twitter correspondent was very busy as we entered the most exciting period of the match during the final 15 minutes with another four goals scored before the end of the match.
Firstly, Cribbs settled matters with Ben Brook's first goal for the club. A break down the right and a low cross into the six yard box saw Ben convert easily. Following this, Hengrove broke forward and won a penalty which Archie Watts saved well, only to see the penalty taker convert the rebound.
Cribbs 4th goal came from the penalty spot. Wanjau-Smith had left the field by this point, so Jason Vincent stepped up to convert for his second goal of the game. Immediately from the restart, Hengrove broke away to score a second and give themselves a modicum of hope for the five minutes of injury time.
Fortunately, added time was more uneventful than the final ten minutes of normal time and Cribbs secured a comfortable win to add to their hard earned Tuesday night 1 nil success against Shepton Mallet, which had seen sharp-shooter Wanjau-Smith add to his ever increasing goals tally for the season.
In other club matters, the Reserves continued their fine form with another exciting win away to Olveston. For the second week running Alec Mills side came back from a 2 goal deficit to secure victory. Last Saturday they won 4-3 away to Chipping Sodbury Reserves with two goals from Liam Clayton plus one apiece from Aaron Coleman and Tom Headford.
This week, the battlers secured the three points with a late winner to win 3-2. The winner coming from Andy Forward, following strikes by Dan Burgan and Dave Truan. This win opened up a ten point lead at the top with their closest pursuers local rivals Sea Mills who drew with Highridge United and 'The Millers' have two matches in hand.
A clean sweep of wins saw Ben Walker's Third XI win 3-1 at Longwell Green including a rare strike from 4th XI boss Harry Long. The other goals came from Alex Craig and James Capon.
