In a similar vein to last week, Cribbs started their Boxing Day fixture the better of the two sides and the first chance to take the lead came in the 4th minute of the game, Jack Fillingham forcing the Chipping Sodbury keeper into a very good save.
8 Minutes later a Chipping Sodbury defender was forced to hack a Steve Murray effort off the line following a flowing counterattack from the opposition corner. And then, moments later, the Chipping Sodbury keeper was quick and alert to sweep the ball away from Jack Fillingham as the forward was clear through on goal.
Cribbs’ persistence payed dividends and they took the lead in the 20th minute. Steve Murray, the goal scorer, sliding past the keeper following some good build up play in the middle of the park. Murray finished clinically to give Cribbs a well-deserved lead.
Moments later it could have been 2-0, Murray again causing carnage for the Sodbury defenders. However, his low effort aimed at the near post was again blocked by the keeper.
Cribbs continued to be on top, however they could not find a second goal before half time.
The second half was a much less open affair, with neither team being able to create many clear-cut chances at all.
Steve Murray forced the Sodbury keeper into another top save as his sweetly struck effort from the edge of the area was palmed away to safety.
With 10 minutes left Cribbs were denied an opportunity to double their lead from the spot. However, the referee judged a shove in the area was not enough to award Cribbs a penalty.
As time ticked away Cribbs held firm and were able to defend themselves from the onslaught of long balls that Chipping Sodbury launched into the area.
Moments after another defensive header from a Cribbs defender, the referee blew his whistle and Cribbs claimed a well-deserved Boxing Day 3 points.
Cribbs now sit two points off second place in the division with all to play for in 2022.
